This is a beautiful, scenic itinerary which starts in Cape Town and travel along the Garden Route ending with a family friendly safari in the Eastern Cape.
While in Cape Town the family will enjoy discovering the sights and sounds the Mother City has to offer from Table Mountain to Cape Point and the Winelands – juice tasting for kids! Head inland along the Garden Route, your first stop being Oudtshoorn. Home to the world renowned Cango Caves and the ostrich capital of the world. There is no doubt that you and your family will be kept busy and entertained during your stay in Oudtshoorn.
Continue to Knysna, the heart of the Garden Route, where you have some time to relax and rejuvenate. Spend time at the beach or tour the Knysna heads or any of the friendly places of interest such as Birds of Eden and Monkeyland.
Wind down your Garden Route journey at a private game reserve in the Eastern Cape. As the Eastern Cape is malaria free it is perfect for families. The lodges have programmes specially designed to keep children interested and teach them about the nature and wildlife.

After breakfast you and your tour guide will depart for your full day Cape Peninsula tour and start your day with an ascent by cable car to the notorious Table Mountain (weather permitting). Thereafter head south along the Atlantic Seaboard towards Hout Bay and over Chapman’s Peak, offering stunning views and perfect photo opportunities. Continue to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve where we will spend some time at Cape Point and witness the meeting of the Atlantic Ocean and Indian Ocean currents.
Enjoy lunch en-route followed by a visit to the penguin colony at Boulder's Beach before making your way back to your hotel. Dinner to own arrangements. Overnight Cape Town. (B, L)
After breakfast, depart the hotel for a full day tour of the beautiful Cape Winelands. The Winelands is well known for producing some of the world’s premium wines and rich in history and culture. Explore historical towns like Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek each town offers a variety of wines and lies within easy driving distance from each other. Your tour includes two or three (time permitting) wine tastings and a cellar tour at one of the estates. The estates we will visit today will be either of the following – Fairview, Nelson’s Creek, Solms Delta, Moreson, and Waterford. The Winelands is also the culinary capital of South Africa and no doubt you will enjoy lunch at either of the estates visited. Dinner to own arrangements. Overnight Cape Town. (B, L)
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant, followed by check out. Your guide will collect you from your hotel this morning and assist with transfer to Oudtshoorn via the historical and laid back Route 62. Enjoy beautiful scenery along your drive (approximately 4,5 hours duration). Lunch will be enjoyed en-route to Oudtshoorn.
Oudtshoorn is known as the ostrich capital of the world and is home to the spectacular Cango Caves. After check in at your hotel, your guide will collect you for an afternoon visit at one of Oudtshoorn’s ostrich farms. Enjoy an unforgettable, entertaining and educational tour which includes feeding an ostrich, a visit to the breeding camp and possibly get to ride an ostrich. Return to the hotel after the tour. Enjoy dinner at the hotel or a local restaurant (dinner booked under own arrangements). Overnight at your Hotel. (B, L)
Breakfast is served at your hotel this morning followed by checkout and departure for this morning’s activities. Your guide will escort you to the Cango Caves, where you will embark on a guided Heritage Tour (adventure tour is optional at an additional cost). Your Cango Caves guide will escort throughout the tour and will lead you through the many chambers and halls within the caves. Your Caves guide will explain the significance of each chamber as you move along. A highlight of the Heritage Tour would be the Rainbow Chamber with its eerie glow of lights and scenes of Old Nick (the Cave Devil), an open family Bible, an outstretched lost wing of an angel and a Christening Font all depicted through strategic lighting of the caves. Enjoy lunch at the Cango Caves restaurant before continuing to the Wildlife Ranch. Bid farewell to Oudtshoorn and enjoy a leisurely scenic drive to Knysna (approximately 1,5 hours). Enjoy a hearty breakfast served at your hotel. Your guide will collect you after breakfast for a very busy day in and around Knysna. Head off to Knysna Lagoon for your excursion to the Featherbed Nature Reserve, situated on the Western Head in Knysna. Your excursion include a return ferry trip on the Knysna Lagoon, a 4x4 drive onto the Reserve with your specialist guide offering information on the local fauna and flora and a buffet lunch served at the restaurant setting under a canopy of Milkwood trees. Your guide awaits your return to the mainland and continue to Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary. Your experienced and trained guide at the Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary will take you on an informative tour of the sanctuary. Many of the animals you will come to meet have been saved from exploitation, abuse, neglect and from human homes where they were kept as pets but owners soon realised that these animals were not suited for the indoors. Jukani aims at making visitors aware of the plight the “Big Cats” face. Return to your hotel late afternoon. Enjoy dinner at the hotel or a local restaurant (dinner booked under own arrangements). Breakfast is served at the hotel, followed by checkout. Your guide will collect you and transfer you to your safari lodge in the Eastern Cape. Enjoy visits to the Monkeyland and Birds of Eden en-route to your lodge. At Monkeyland the emphasis is on searching for primates and to see them as they were meant to be – free and in a natural habitat. As they are not caged, your guide will assist you in searching for the various species and share fun and interesting facts about the primates which you encounter.
Following your tour at Monkeyland, walk across to the Birds of Eden sanctuary, the world’s largest open air aviary hosting over 3500 birds. Enjoy self-guided tour under a unique dome which spans over a vast indigenous forest. Some of the features at Birds of Eden include a mysterious ruin which incorporates a walk behind waterfall and an amphitheatre.
Lunch will be enjoyed at the Jandaya restaurant at Birds of Eden. Bid farewell to Birds of Eden and continue your transfer to your safari lodge located in the Eastern Cape (approximately 4 hours).
You will be met by the lodge manager on arrival at the lodge and enjoy some time to unwind and relax before dinner. Dinner will be served at the lodge’s dining area or around the fire in the open air Boma. Overnight at your Lodge. (B, L, D)
Early morning wake up by way of a gentle tap on your door. Discuss your safari wishes and expectations with your ranger over tea or coffee and morning biscuits. Accompanied by your ranger and tracker, head off on your morning safari by 4x4 safari vehicle explore the diverse terrain in search of your favourite animals. Return to the lodge for a mouth-watering breakfast followed by some relaxation time. If you wish, you can walk off your breakfast on a short walk near your lodge, accompanied by your ranger, who will share his insight into the smaller animals and vegetation in the area. Return to the lodge in time for a delicious lunch. Afternoon tea is served before heading out on your afternoon game drive. The afternoon game drive starts in the late afternoon and lasts until after dark when spotlights will be used for a peak into the nocturnal bush life and hope to see the rarely seen porcupine, aardwolf or aardvark. Enjoy sundowners in a scenic location as you watch the sunset over the horizon. Return to the lodge for dinner. Overnight at your Lodge. (B, L, D)
After your early wake up call, enjoy some light breakfast pastries and coffee, tea or juice before departing for your morning game drive and one last opportunity for your ranger to impress you! Enjoy a delicious breakfast on return to the lodge, followed by check out. You will be collected from the lodge for your private road transfer to Port Elizabeth Airport (approximately 2 hours) for your flight to Johannesburg. On arrival at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport you will need to connect with your international depart. (B)
