It was influenced by a variety of other languages including Dutch, Malay, Malay-Portuguese, Arabic, French,German, English and the indigenous Khoi and African languages of South Africa. Franschhoek, known as the french corner of the Cape lies in a beautiful wine valley just 30 minutes away from the Paarl and Stellenbosch Wine Routes. The town was first established by French Huguenots fleeing from France in 1685. Many of the farms still have their French names and the architecture boasts the Cape Dutch style which is popular in the Cape Winelands District. Franschhoek’s main street is lined with art galleries, coffee shops, restaurants and antique stores. Stroll hand in hand through the streets of this quaint town as you swoop in and out of art galleries and little curio shops. After your stroll have a refreshing drink at one of the many coffee shops before continuing your walk about town. End off the perfect day with your partner with a fine dinner paired with the local wine of the area.
