The Cape Winelands District has wide variety of destinations and activities that caters to every taste in life.

The Cape Winelands is a picturesque agricultural landscape nestled in the heart of the Western Cape. Found just a short drive out of Cape Town, the Cape Winelands District is where some of the world’s best wines are produced. The district is made up of a number of vibrant towns and is home to popular cultural events and festivals.

The Cape Winelands is the biggest wine producer in South Africa and as the name suggests, the area is most popular for its fine wines. There are however other great attractions for both young and old to enjoy. Ranging from fine dining options, historical monuments and scenic hiking and cycling trails for the fitter visitors.

It is easy to fall in love with the small town charm of the area. We have identified just three towns in this beautiful district where you can take your significant other for the day.

Found just a 40 minute drive outside of Cape Town, Paarl is situated at the foot of the second-largest granite outcrop in the world. Paarl is home to the Afrikaans language museum and the Afrikaans Language Monument. Afrikaans is one of South Africa’s eleven official languages. It was influenced by a variety of other languages including Dutch, Malay, Malay-Portuguese, Arabic, French,German, English and the indigenous Khoi and African languages of South Africa. Pack a picnic basket or buy one from the local stores and enjoy a lovely afternoon in the exotic garden. During the summer months popular events include full moon picnics and stargazing evenings.

3. Franschhoek

Franschhoek, known as the french corner of the Cape lies in a beautiful wine valley just 30 minutes away from the Paarl and Stellenbosch Wine Routes. The town was first established by French Huguenots fleeing from France in 1685. Many of the farms still have their French names and the architecture boasts the Cape Dutch style which is popular in the Cape Winelands District. Franschhoek’s main street is lined with art galleries, coffee shops, restaurants and antique stores. Stroll hand in hand through the streets of this quaint town as you swoop in and out of art galleries and little curio shops. After your stroll have a refreshing drink at one of the many coffee shops before continuing your walk about town. End off the perfect day with your partner with a fine dinner paired with the local wine of the area.
